Debutant coach McClennan brings in two new faces
While Henry and Hurrell, both 20, were earmarked for their maiden NRL appearances, the club’s only new signing Nathan Friend was named for his Vodafone Warriors debut on the same day he marks his 31st birthday.
McClennan revealed his first NRL line-up as the Vodafone Warriors launched their 2012 season at a gala breakfast in front of more than 450 people at the SKYCITY Convention Centre.
He confirmed centre Hurrell was set to become Vodafone Warrior No 171, partnering the club’s longest-serving player Jerome Ropati, in line to make his comeback from knee surgery after last starting in an NRL match against St George Illawarra on March 27 last year.
Friend, who has played 135 NRL matches, will become Vodafone Warrior No 172 and Henry No 173.
McClennan said Hurrell and Henry had demanded selection following their deeds in the club’s three trials this month.
